02 - Barcelona and Valencia
So we made it ALMOST all the way to Barcelona - but got lost trying to get into the city. And look where we ended up.. (I was driving) coincidence ??
So this is where the word GAWDY originated from... Gaudi - designer architect has his work displayed all over Barcelona - form your own opinion.
Close up of the Gaudi building
La Sangrada Familia - Gaudi's design for a cathedral - being built since the turn of the century - The LAST one.
Headed into Barri Gothic - Walk only again !
Inside the Barcelona Cathedral
Ceiling of the B'lona Cathedral - notice the interesting Gothic ribs.
Outside the Cathedral - with the sunday market
Then we headed to the pier for dinner - Barcelonita - apparently Kristen was NOT on the menu
But mom's Veggie Paellella was !!
And a few pitchers of Sangria and some Schanpps later....
The view from the room at the Bed and Breakfast
The building was very reminiscent of the older buildings in Calcutta
The entrance steps to the National Museum of Art - Catalunya
The building was originally a wealthy family home - complete with watch towers.
The museum was closed, but we were there for the vistas..see !
See !!
That's the building itself
Sampling the local product back at the B&N - and later we rocked the night...
The next morning with some of the party nursing raging hangovers we drove to Valencia - to be greeted by....
Stopping to smell the lemons?? no oranges?? no sweet lemons? no...
Dad trying to talk to the door
Around the corner was the talking door.... probably the most beautiful door facade I have ever seen - the entrance to the National Ceramic Museum
In detail
The main Square in Valencia
I'm pointing to the Pallella - Valencia is the HOME of the dish... mmm !
The Valencia Cathedral
From the inside
One of the Altar Pieces
The main draw of the Cathedral - The HOLY GRAIL ! Look at the woodwork around it
This is what the fuss is all about
